Sheila Warren describes herself as a "professional flâneur," a lens through which she observes and shapes the intersection of technology, policy, and society. She is a globally recognized expert serving as a Board member and strategic advisor across the tech and civil society sectors. Her mission for over 25 years has been to demystify new technologies—from digital assets to AI and quantum computing—to ensure they are accessible to everyone and built on a foundation of integrity, democracy, and ethics.
Currently, as Chair of the Advanced AI Society, Sheila is stewarding "Proof of Control," a critical standard for verifiable AI. She previously served as the CEO of Project Liberty Institute, focusing on ethical AI and social media, and as the founding CEO of the Crypto Council for Innovation, the premier global alliance for responsible crypto innovation. She co-hosted the popular "Money Reimagined" podcast on the Coindesk network from 2020 to 2024.
Prior to these roles, Sheila founded the blockchain and digital assets team at the World Economic Forum, serving on its Executive Committee. She later became Head of the Forum's San Francisco office and Deputy Global Head of the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, overseeing strategy across 16 countries to advance AI, XR, and data in the global public interest. Her background also includes over a decade in civic tech as an attorney, entrepreneur, and senior executive at TechSoup, where she founded NGOsource.
A Harvard Law School graduate (J.D.) and Harvard College alumna (A.B. in Economics, magna cum laude), Sheila began her career at Cravath, Swaine & Moore. She has testified before Congress, advised governments worldwide, and is a sought-after speaker on five continents. Her insights appear in Bloomberg, CNBC, PBS, NPR, the Financial Times, and the New York Times. Named to Top 100 lists in digital finance and tech for good annually since 2018, she is also a founding member of the Association for Women In Cryptocurrency and holds leadership roles with the Equal Justice Society and the ACLU of Northern California.
